A tenth anniversary celebration was held at the Samuel Fleming House on Sept. 26. The Samuel Fleming House Museum & Gardens marked its ten years of operation, from 2005, when the borough purchased the property from the Daughters of the American Revolution, to its current status as the heart and start of Flemington.

The museum is run by the Friends of Fleming Castle, a nonprofit organization. More than 100 visitors toured the museum during the celebration and were the first to view the new Colonial bedroom display room. In addition to the new Colonial bedroom, another new exhibit was unveiled. It is a black dress, circa 1910, that served as a wedding dress worn by Barbara Brill, who had immigrated from Hungary in that year.

The attendees enjoyed the music, food, and activities available. In the afternoon, visitors were entertained by the music of Heather Wood. In the evening, singer Russell Norkeivich filled the garden with melodic voice and keyboard music. At the Fleming's Tavern Colonial-style beer garden celebrants joined in refreshments of beer, birch beer, and pulled pork sliders, while on the street, many enjoyed gelato from Cocco's Cafe and shaved ice from Kona Ice.

The Friends of Fleming Castle wish to thank our sponsors: Hopewell Valley Community Bank, Shoprite of Flemington, K. L. Electrical Contractors, and the Parks and Recreation commission of Flemington/Raritan. We also appreciate the contributions of Girl Scout Troop 90583, the Questors, the Flemington Police Department, and the members of the Public Works Department of Flemington for making this event possible.

A celebration of the 90th birthday of Board Trustee Edna Pedrick was also included and a fund for the restoration of the museum's melodeon was started in her honor. To contribute to the Edna Pedrick Melodeon Fund, go the museum's website, fleminghousemuseum.org or call 908-782-4607.

The museum is open the second Saturday of each month, from 1-4 p.m. Join us on Dec.. 12 to view a display of a one-of-a-kind hand-painted Victorian-style ceramic village. The village will be on display from 1-4 p.m. and holiday refreshments will be served.
