Supporters of local EMT and firefighter Adam Hett are organizing fundraisers to help him out while he battles Hodgkin's lymphoma.
FRANKLIN TWP. -- Quakertown Fire Company is hosting a Brotherhood BBQ on Saturday to help a local firefighter and EMT who is battling Hodgkin's lymphoma.
The event runs from 4-9 p.m. and includes ribs, chicken, pork, burgers, beer and wine, and live entertainment. Order in advance by emailing BBQ@quakertownfire.com.
Half the proceeds from the event will benefit Adam Hett, 20, who has been diagnosed with Stage 3 Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Adam is a firefighter and emergency medical technician with multiple fire and rescue agencies, to which he devotes most of his free time, when not working.
Hett's family, emergency services colleagues and friends have joined together to support him, creating a Facebook page in March, Adam's Cause, on which they post fundraising events like the barbecue, and a GoFundMe appeal, "Help Support Adam's Treatment!," to which people can donate to help provide funds to pay for his chemotherapy treatment.
"I really can't put in words how much all these events and such have helped me stay positive throughout this tough time," Hett stated in a post on the Facebook page. "I'm 1/3 of the way done with my treatments!! Going quicker then I expected, soon I'll be right back to where I was before, whether it's helping my community on an ambulance or fire truck! Can wait to be back!"
Another event to help Hett is set for Sunday, May 22. Cuts for Cancer will be held at Sal's Family Image in Clinton from 1-5 p.m. People can pay $20 to get a haircut from a licensed stylist, and help Hett at the same time. Sal's Family Image is at 25 Old Highway 22. Support bracelets will also be available for $3. Call Sherry Cruts at 908-730-0206 for more information.
