Two tractor-trailers crashed just after 6:45 a.m. Wednesday on Interstate 78 East in Hunterdon County.

One of the trucks, with significant front-end damage, was blocking the right and center lanes between Exits 7 and 8 in Bethlehem Township.

New Jersey State Police from the Perryville barracks responded and there were no initial reports of injuries, a trooper said.

Eastbound traffic delays were reported about the same time at Exit 6 in Bloomsbury, but they were due to traffic volume, the New Jersey Department of Transportation said.

Delays were estimated at 15 to 20 minutes, according to NJDOT. By 8:40 a.m., delays were 40 to 45 minutes, the DOT said. Alternative routes, such as Route 173, backed us as well.

By 9:15 a.m., the wreck was off the highway, but the backup extended to the toll bridge connecting to Williams Township, the DOT said. A state police sergeant said one or more lanes might still have been closed at that time. The investigating trooper was still on the scene, the sergeant said.

Traffic wasn't backed up to the Morgan Hill Road entrance in Williams, a Pennsylvania Department of Transportation traffic camera showed.

The delays cleared up by 9:45 a.m., the New Jersey DOT said.
