Benedict Donaruma was promoted to sergeant and Brian Mayer was sworn in as a probational patrolman at the Raritan Township Committee meeting Tuesday night.
RARITAN TWP. -- Police Officer Benedict Donaruma has been promoted to sergeant, and Brian Mayer is the township's newest police officer.
Both were sworn in at the Raritan Township Committee meeting Tuesday night. The changes go into effect on Jan. 1.
The Police Department turned out in force Tuesday night to witness the proceedings, and they got a big thank-you from Mayor Craig O'Brien, who said to all of them, "We are very grateful for all you do."
Donaruma was hired by the Raritan Township Police Department in 1995 after working for the Hunterdon County Prosecutor's Office for two years.
During his career, he has been assigned to the Patrol Division and the Detective Bureau. Donaruma was most recently assigned to the Patrol Division. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice.

Mayer has been hired as a probational patrolman. He most recently worked at the Seaside Heights Police Department before being recommended for a vacant position in the Raritan Township Police Department by Chief Glenn Tabasko. In January, he will complete several classes at the Morris County Police Academy.
