The only goals of Liz Duffy and Ben Smith are to keep Readington affordable and to keep our township a great place to live.

To the editor:

I'm happy to see that Liz Duffy and Ben Smith are running for Readington Township Committee. Liz and Ben have lived in town and have been active volunteers for our community for many years. They are both busy with young children and careers, but are willing to spend even more time serving their township because they think it's worth taking care of the great town that we have.

They are committed to doing what it takes to keep Readington affordable because they know what it's like to raise a family here and how important it is to keep taxes down.

Liz is a very bright and articulate lawyer with a good grasp of the problems facing Readington Township and how to solve them. She has gained a good working knowledge of government in her service in the Hunterdon County Council's office and in the state Attorney General's office. She is currently employed in the private sector as an attorney for Chubb here in Readington.

Smith is an equally-impressive candidate for township committee. He is an Eagle Scout, a graduate of Cal-Tech and is employed as head of cyber-security for lEX, a new Wall Street exchange.

These are two people that I trust to understand the issues facing the town and to do the right things for us. They don't have an agenda other than to keep Readington a nice, affordable place to live. Readington can benefit greatly from their professionalism and their dedication. Please join me in voting for Liz Duffy and Ben Smith on Nov. 3.

To the editor:

Liz Duffy and Ben Smith are the Republican Party candidates for the Readington Township Committee in the upcoming November election. Scott Scammell, an independent candidate, has surfaced as a challenger. Scammell appears to be running a strictly negative campaign without a clear message. He readily admits that, if elected, he will form a three man majority to "change" Readington. To what, we are not sure.

What is the real issue that caused him to run? It is an issue familiar to most Readington residents, the proposed expansion of Solberg Airport. The Readington Township Committee is one vote away from having a pro-Solberg majority.

Following Judge Armstrong's May 2015 decision, the threat of airport expansion that would lengthen the main runway to over a mile long, accommodating corporate jet traffic, is more serious now than it has ever been. The airport supporters know this, hence this seemingly desperate one candidate campaign. A pro-airport township committee would quickly make the airport's expansion plan a reality by eliminating any meaningful opposition.

The connection between Scott Scammell and aviation is easy to make. Scammell is an aviation insurance broker and a principal in Wings, LLC. He has been affiliated with Airsure Limited, LLC, an agency specializing in insurance coverage for businesses in the aviation industry. He has been associated with aviation for decades and is an ally of the Solberg Family, as was his father before him.

Please join me in supporting Liz Duffy and Ben Smith for township committee on Nov. 3.

Liz and Ben, the Republican Party candidates, are extremely well qualified to serve. They have only the best interests of Readington at heart. They have proved their dedication over their many years of service as active Readington volunteers. They are committed to our community and are raising their families here.

The only goals of Liz Duffy and Ben Smith are to keep Readington affordable and to keep our township a great place to live. Liz and Ben clearly have the skills and the dedication necessary to further these goals.

Readington Township

To the editor:

Readington Township faces many important and challenging decisions in the near future. Do we want an expanded airport/jetport? Do we want the Merck property redeveloped as high-density low and moderate income housing? Do we want to see Routes 22 and 202 developed with strip malls and Big Box stores like other towns along this corridor?

Instead of facing these issues, Scott Scammell, the "independent" candidate for Township Committee (he is actually a member of both the Readington Township and Hunterdon County Republican committees) and long-time aviation and development supporter, seems only to focus on "lynching" former Township Committee member Julia Allen.

Going forward and facing these difficult issues, Readington needs the smart, young, experienced and dynamic leadership of Liz Duffy and Ben Smith. Liz and Ben have worked long and hard for this town, as opposed to Scammell, who has done nothing. Republicans, Democrats, real independents, please join me on Tuesday, Nov. 3, in voting for Liz Duffy and Ben Smith. Readington's future depends on it.
