The Tibetan Monks of the Gaden Shartse Dokhang Monastery in India are visiting Hunterdon County this month as part of their 18-month Compassion Tour. They are here to share their culture, practices and paths to inner peace and compassion and to raise money for their monastery. (www.tibetanmonktour.org)

They will also hold a service at the First Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Hunterdon County. Several generous restaurants in Flemington have offered to feed the monks including Blue Fish Grill, Market Roost, Main Street Bagel, Baker's Treat, Basil Bandwagon and the new Caffe Cichetti on Stangl Road.
Funds raised on this tour will help to build a prayer hall, dormitories and provide for the medical needs for the more than 2,000 monks of Gaden Shartse Dokhang Monastery.
Tibetan Buddhist Calligraphy - Join the monks Monday, Oct. 19, from 6:30-8:30 p.m., at The Paint Party Studio for an interactive talk, demo and workshop on the ancient, beautiful art of Tibetan calligraphy. All are welcome. (Please arrive by 6 p.m. Space is limited.)

Sphericality invites residents to participate in a Mindfulness meditation in their beautiful studio located at 124 Main St. in Flemington. Join in this beautiful guided patience and mindfulness meditation. The monks will assist participants in cultivating a meditation practice. Baker's Treat Cafe will be hosting the monks for a wonderful workshop in the ancient art of Tibetan Buddhist Butter Sculpting. All ages are welcome to join us in this hand-on workshop and demo. Stop by for coffee and breakfast and watch the activity and meet the monks.

Tibetan Cultural Performance
- Saturday, Oct. 24, 8-9:30 p.m., at the Stangl Factory, Corner of Mine Street and Stangl Road, Flemington
Recommended donation: $10 at the door. Join in an evening of cultural performance by the Monks of Gaden Shartse Dokhang Monastery featuring traditional chanting, sacred music, dialectical debate, and Tibetan Tea Ceremony. Bring the family for this beautiful cultural experience.
The monks will also be presenting the Oct. 25 service at The First Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Hunterdon County on "World Peace and The Unity of All Religions" from 10:30 a.m. to noon. This group of eight monks consists of three spiritual masters, a chant master, a ritual master, two sand mandala masters and an interpreter. They are making their way across the U.S. with the blessing of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama to share their culture, practices and paths to inner peace and compassion.
