Hunterdon Central Regional High School was evacuated on Oct. 18, 2016, because of a bomb threat, the Hunterdon County Prosecutor's Office confirmed.
RARITAN TWP. - Hunterdon Central Regional High School was evacuated on Tuesday because of a bomb threat, the Hunterdon County Prosecutor's Office confirmed.
The school was evacuated at approximately 8 a.m. Students are being dismissed at 10 a.m., according to the district's website.
"Police evacuated Hunterdon Central High School for the safety and security of the students," Hunterdon County Prosecutor Anthony P. Kearns, III said. "The Hunterdon County Prosecutor's Office, the Raritan Township Police Department and the New Jersey State Police are investigating. All parents were advised of the situation."
Brian Stanaway, a parent of a Hunterdon Central student, questioned why all students were not evacuated from all of the school's buildings. He said students were only evacuated from the building where the threat originated.
"Why hasn't the entire building been evacuated and all students brought outside to maybe the football field until the transportation department can bring students home?" he asked. "I know it might sound drastic, but it's not cold - it's 80 degrees today - and you can never be to careful in this day and age, unfortunately."
Kearns, III, Chief of Detectives John J. Kuczynski, and Raritan Township Police Chief Glenn Tabaskoall jointly announced the investigation.Last week township police announced that two Lebanon men were issued summonses for allegedly driving through the Hunterdon Central Regional High School Field House parking lot while wearing clown masks.
The men, ages 18 and 27, were given disorderly-conduct summonses as a result of the incident, which was first reported to school resource and township police Officer Timothy Nemeth on Oct. 6, police said.
