ALEXANDRIA -- Having survived a two-car crash that killed a 45-year-old Solebury, Pa. man, Caryn Wagstaff of Milford remains in critical condition and undergoing multiple surgeries.

Wagstaff, 48, was on her way to work on Wednesday, Sept. 23, traveling northbound on Route 579 when an oncoming vehicle drifted into her lane and struck her head-on, according to State Police.

The impact killed the other driver, Joseph Genuardi, and according to Wagstaff's family "crushed her body from her head to her toes."

Wagstaff's extensive injuries include multiple skull and facial fractures, two crushed vertebrae in her neck, multiple and serious lacerations covering her body, broken ribs, a collapsed lung, a crushed pelvis, a damaged spleen which was removed at the hospital, crushed femurs, broken legs and serious brain trauma.

The road to recovery may last several years, Wagstaff's family said, and because of the severity of her sustained injuries, doctors at the trauma center anticipate that Wagstaff will remain in intensive care unit for a minimum of four weeks, followed by several months of hospital stay.

With seven children, ranging in age from 11 to 23, the Wagstaff family has taken to social media to spread awareness and raise funds for expensive hospital bills.

"She is an inspiration of love and friendship and devotion, who selflessly reaches out to all around her. She has always been willing to help anyone in need, and now she needs your help more than ever," Jenn Rispoli wrote on a GoFundMe page that's raised more than $9,600 in four days.

After seven days in the hospital, there are still major concerns with her brain functions, but her family is praying and staying optimistic.

"This is something that is going to take months, probably years, for her to fully recover from. We're trying to take it day by day, and I personally encourage everyone else to do the same," daughter Melisa Wagstaff said. "Pray for her daily. Keep her in your thoughts. My mom is a fighter and an incredible person. I have no doubt that she will pull through this."
