Township official says mega store will benefit the region.
RARITAN TWP. -- The Costco under construction off Route 31 is now accepting applications for jobs, said the store's assistant general manager Kevin Stoms on Thursday.
The mega store giant will open its new location with approximately 300 employees, said Stoms. Most of a jobs available are entry-level positions and there will be a few supervisory hires, he said.
Stoms said construction of the Costco is on schedule for a Nov. 17 opening. The store is located in the Raritan Town Square, which was the cite of the Old Flemington Speedway, the historic Flemington Fairgrounds and the Old Yale property.
Christopher Phelan, president and CEO of the Hunterdon County Chamber of Commerce, said the property has been in the process of development for more than 15 years and the arrival of Costco brings added momentum.
"We're always excited when a new business comes," said Phelan. "It's always a positive for the local economy with full- and part-time job opportunities. I think a store like Costco will draw regionally, with people from Bucks, Somerset and Warren county coming to our town.
"Costco isn't just going to benefit one county, it's going to benefit the entire region. We live in a very competitive environment and Costco will expose people to some of the things we cherish here in Hunterdon County."
Anyone interested in applying can do so through Costco's online career portal, or click here for job listings.
