Michael J. Nathman, 24, of Fort Worth, Texas, has been sentenced to 15 years in New Jersey state prison after pleading guilty to sex crimes committed in Hunterdon County in 2015.

FLEMINGTON - Michael J. Nathman, 24, of Fort Worth, Texas, who plead guilty in March to sex crimes committed in Hunterdon County in 2015, has been sentenced to 15 years in state prison, Hunterdon County Prosecutor Anthony P. Kearns, III said Friday.

Nathman was sentenced by Hunterdon County Superior Court Judge Angela F. Borkowski. He will not be eligible for parole and will have to undergo a psycho-sexual evaluation, register as a sex offender and remain under parole supervision for life.

"The successful prosecution of these heinous crimes has helped to take a predator off our streets," Kearns said. "While we are pleased with the sentence imposed by Judge Borkowski, we realize that it does not diminish the trauma imposed on the victim's and their families."

The joint investigation by detectives from the Hunterdon County Prosecutor's Office and the State Police Perryville barracks led to Nathman's arrest and charges in December 2015, it was previously reported.

The crimes had occurred in Bethlehem Township between May and November 2015.

Nathman plead guilty to first-degree sexual assault, second-degree sexual assault and criminal sexual contact. In addition to those charges, he had originally been charged with a second count of second-degree sexual assault, six counts of third-degree endangering the welfare of children, a second count of fourth-degree criminal sexual contact and one count of fourth-degree lewdness.

He had previously lived in West Point, N.Y., Kearns said at the time of Nathman's arrest. According to Nathman's Facebook page at that time, he started school at the United States Military Academy in July 2012. That page has subsequently been removed.

Nathman was apprehended by the Fort Worth Police Department Fugitive Unit and the U.S. Marshals North Texas Fugitive Task Force near his home in Forth Worth. He has remained held at the Somerset County Jail since his extradition back to New Jersey in December, according to the prosecutor's office.

"I would like to commend the law enforcement officers and detectives from the New Jersey State Police Perryville Barracks and the Hunterdon County Prosecutor's Office investigative staff for the thorough and extensive investigation that led to the arrest and conviction of Mr. Nathman," Kearns said. "I would also like to thank Assistant Prosecutor Kelly Daniels for her outstanding efforts in this case."
