Two people were arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated after two separate accidents in Raritan Township.

RARITAN TWP. - Two people were arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated after two separate accidents in the township.

One accident happened at 12:33 a.m. Saturday resulting in the arrest of Brynn E. Fitzgerald, 25, of the township. She allegedly struck a utility pole while driving a 1999 Subaru around a curve on Sergeantsville Road, police said.

Fitzgerald reportedly appeared intoxicated and had a bump and an abrasion on her head. The Flemington-Raritan First Aid and Rescue Squad responded, but Fitzgerald refused medical assistance.

In addition to the drunk driving charge, Fitzgerald was issued motor-vehicle summonses for failure to maintain lane control and reckless driving by Officer Aaron Roth. Fitzgerald was released to a friend pending a court hearing.

Thomas Q. Rush, 21, of Hampton, was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated at 3:13 a.m. on Thursday after an accident on Dvoor Circle.

Police were initially called for a report of loud squealing tires and reportedly found Rush standing next to his vehicle with a Flemington Borough police officer. The car, a 2003 Dodge Neon, was damaged with both air bags deployed.

Rush was allegedly driving north on Sergeantsville Road into the circle when he lost control, striking, and jumping over, a curb. The Neon re-entered the roadway and struck a second curb, police said.

The Neon had damage to the front tires, but Rush did not report any injuries. He failed field sobriety tests and was arrested by Officer Adam Swiatek, police said.

Rush was also issued motor-vehicle summonses for failure to maintain lane control and careless driving. The vehicle was towed and Rush was released to a family member, police said.

Township police also reported one additional drunk driving arrest and two drug possession arrests in the township in recent weeks.
