A cat was rescued from the Wednesday, June 29, 2016, condominium fire at Spruce Hills in Glen Gardner.

GLEN GARDNER - Firefighters rescued a cat named Hank during Wednesday's four-alarm fire at the Spruce Hills condominium complex.

Hampton Fire Company Station 13 posted on Facebook that one of its lieutenants used a donated pet oxygen mask to revive Hank, who had suffered severe smoke inhalation.

Karen Egidio said she returned home to find her unit in flames and her cat, Hank, still inside. After firefighters rescued and revived him, Hank was sent to a veterinarian hospital for severe smoke inhalation. On Wednesday, Hank was doing much better, but remains hospitalized, Egidio said.

The Canine Company's Canine Saves project has been donating pet oxygen masks to New Jersey fire departments and rescue squads, including Annandale Hose Company #1 in Clinton Township.

Firefighters were called out just after 5 p.m. The fire damaged at least three units. No information has been released on the cause of the fire or if there were any injuries.
