A featured liquor vendor has been named for four nights in July at the new Flemington beer garden.

FLEMINGTON -- Volunteers with the Flemington Community Partnership have been working toward getting Flemington's beer garden, just named the Flemington Filling Station, up and running. Here's the latest on what's happening.

When will it open?

July 1 is set as the "soft" opening. The Flemington Filling Station will be open on Fridays and Saturdays, 5-10 p.m., from July 1 to Sept. 24. If organizers can't get enough liquor vendors scheduled, they may consider running the Filling Station on Fridays only.

Who's serving the beer?

The partnership is still reaching out, one by one, to all local restaurants and liquor license holders to invite them to be featured at the Filling Station. Stephen Little of Central Liquors has signed on to be the featured liquor vendor on July 1, 8, 22 and 29.

What's next?

Michael Campion, Flemington's director of Public Works, has been getting the water running at the site so Lowe's can power-wash the area, scheduling dumpsters and hauling trucks to come (June 10 and 13, respectively) and be taken away (June 16), and making sure brand new garden beds will be watered all summer.

What will Lowe's do?

Lowe's has been working with the partnership to finalize the scope of the Lowe's Heroes project and finalizing the colors of the building (white with blue and red striping as it was originally) and placement of benches, garden boxes, and picnic tables. They have begun ordering the supplies they will need to arrive on June 13 for the start of the cleanup expected to happen June 13-17.

Lighting things up

Ernie Fletcher of Fletcher and Sons Electrical Services has volunteered to set up electricity at the site so there will be lighting at the Flemington Filling Station. He's in the process of sourcing the supplies for the task as cheaply as possible.

The partnership is looking for sponsors and donors for the beer garden, Anyone interested can contact Judy Goodwin at jgoodwin@flemingtoncp.com.
