CLINTON TWP. -- A Trenton man faces multiple charges after reportedly running away from police during a traffic stop on May 27, police report. Two passengers with him face charges as well.
An officer stopped a 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe at 5:25 p.m. on Interstate 78 west near Exit 17 for alleged equipment violations. The SUV was being driven by Kifano Jordan, 34, of Trenton, police reported.
The officer reportedly smelled marijuana inside the vehicle, and a search turned up 25 grams of suspected heroin and 16 grams of an unknown white powder, police said.
As officers tried to arrest the SUV's occupants, Jordan reportedly pulled away from an officer and ran toward Route 626, police said. A short time later, another officer reportedly saw Jordan entering a residence on Beaver Avenue.
Jordan was arrested when he emerged from the second-floor bathroom. Officers searched the bathroom and discovered a bag of marijuana in the garbage can, police said.
A subsequent search of the SUV produced a machete, a grinder and a pack of rolling papers, police said.
Jordan was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute, possession of a controlled dangerous substance, resisting arrest, possession of under 50 grams of marijuana, failure to make lawful disposition of a controlled dangerous substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was also issued motor-vehicle summonses for driving while in possession of a controlled dangerous substance, failure to wear a seatbelt, unapproved equipment, unclear license plates, obstructed view and improper safety glass.
Jordan was taken to Hunterdon Medical Center after stating he was suffering from an asthma attack. He was then transported to the Somerset County Jail in Somerville with bail set at $35,000.
Kasheem Gall, 23, of Hagerstown, Md., was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, being under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance and issued a motor-vehicle summons for failure to wear a seatbelt. He was released.
Neja Parham, 20, of Brooklyn, N.Y., was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute, possession of a controlled dangerous substance and unlawful possession of a weapon. She was released.
The Readington Township Police, Town of Clinton Police and New Jersey State Police from the Perryville station assisted.
