Board members reported feeling intimidated by a fellow board member.

RARITAN TWP. -- The Flemington-Raritan school board meeting broke up suddenly Tuesday night when police were called.

Board member Alan Brewer, intent on having his views heard over objections by board President Bruce Davidson, jumped out of his chair and ran around the table at which board members were seated, placing printouts of his statements before them.

"It was intimidating," Superintendent Maryrose Caulfied said, confirming that police were called by the board.

As 8:30 p.m., Raritan Township Police Officer Michael Dendis was conducting an investigation. The public was removed from the meeting room while the investigation was underway.

This was the first board meeting since members laughed over a mistake by Laurie Markowski during a report about Assemblywoman Donna Simon's upcoming appearance at Carrier Clinic to discuss mental health and special education issues.

The board's action prompted NAMI-NJ to criticize the board's actions. District Superintendent Dr. Maryrose Caulfield said last week that she has been meeting with people one-on-one, including speaking to NAMI-NJ, over the incident. Brewer has been critical over the board's actions at the meeting.
