Hunterdon County YMCA Martial Arts Coordinator Sensei Jack Atwell will be testing for his 9th degree black belt in American Isshinryu Karate Saturday.
READINGTON TWP. -- Hunterdon County YMCA Martial Arts Coordinator Sensei Jack Atwell will be testing for his 9th degree black belt in American Isshinryu Karate Saturday.
Atwell is currently an 8th degree black belt, of which 10th is the highest rank. He has trained under the late Grand Master Ernie Temple for 38 years and has been teaching for 34 years.

Many of the important ranking American Isshinryu officials will be in attendance on Saturday to honor Atwell, including Temple's wife, Master Georgia Temple.
The Hunterdon County YMCA's Martial Arts Department is holding a Shia, a testing to move up to the next rank, under Atwell's direction from 12:30-2:30 p.m. at the Deer Path Branch located at 144 West Woodschurch Road.
During the Shia, Y student and volunteer, Amy Allen, 17, will be tested for her first black belt.
