Dr. Johanna Ruberto, named interim superintendent at Hunterdon Central Regional High School, was principal at Readington Middle School for several years.
RARITAN TWP. -- Dr. Johanna Ruberto has been named interim superintendent at Hunterdon Central Regional High School.
She starts July 1, replacing Christina Steffner, who is leaving the district after nine years, the last five as superintendent.
The school board voted on Monday night, with two abstentions, to hire Ruberto, a Flemington resident who was principal at Readington Middle School for several years starting in 2004.
Why Steffner is leaving Hunterdon Central
Ruberto was superintendent in Manville from 2009 until her retirement in 2014, when she was named Somerset County Superintendent of the Year. This year she's been serving as interim superintendent in the South Plainfield School District.
"My children are proud graduates of Hunterdon Central," Ruberto said after her selection. "I hope to use my experience to guide the district in its transition."
She will be paid $605.77 a day.
The board also voted 5-4 to name Michael Raymond supervisor of athletics.
Following Monday night's meeting several audience and board members lined up to speak with Ruberto, including board member Vincent Panico, who abstained on her selection. Panico greeted her with a big smile. "I remember when you took my phone away from me," he said, laughing.
