A "Police Support Recovery" event on Thursday raised about $2,000 for the Hunterdon Recovery Center in Flemington. It will be used to provide alternative healthy resources and activities for people in recovery from addictions.
The basketball game, for community members, law enforcement officers and recovering addicts, was held at Hunterdon Central's Field House.

"It was amazing," said Amanda, a recovering addict who helps run the Recovery Center. "I hope it really helps the community see that it's OK to ask for help and not be afraid to dial 911 when there is an overdose."
The event was such a success "we plan to do it annually," she said.
Spreading word about the Recovery Center is critical, Amanda said. "We are in such an epidemic. ... This is so important to me and the community."
