The Raritan Headwaters Association 26th annual Stream Cleanup will be held on Saturday, April 16, 2016, from 9 a.m. until noon in Hunterdon, Somerset, and Morris counties.

Looking for a way to do your part on World Water Day? There is still time to register for the Raritan Headwaters Association 26th annual Stream Cleanup.

Each spring the association organizes cleanup programs to protect water quality and promote public stewardship of local streams and rivers, according to a news release from the association.

This year's stream cleanup will be held on Saturday, April 16, from 9 a.m. until noon, rain or shine, at 41 locations around the watershed in Hunterdon, Somerset, and Morris counties.

Everyone is invited to participate, from individuals and families to businesses, civic organizations and church groups. Bags, gloves, t-shirts and snacks will be provided.

EPA: Polluters will pay for $1.4B cleanup

Raritan Headwaters will also be collecting data on the number of plastic bags recovered during cleanup and volunteers will be posting photos to social media tagged #RHACleanStreams.

In 2015, more than a thousand volunteers helped remove nearly 10 tons of trash from sites in 29 towns including tangled fishing line, bottles, a Ford pickup tailgate, a leaf blower, tires and 300 pounds of scrap metal.

Established in 1992 by the United Nations, World Water Day is an international observance and "an opportunity to learn more about water related issues, be inspired to tell others and take action to make a difference," according to its website.
