Winds can reach higher than 60 mph; a flood advisory for western Hunterdon is in effect until 4:45.
FLEMINGTON -- A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect for Hunterdon County, according to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly.
The warning, issued around 12:30 p.m., is in effect until 1:15 p.m.
At 12:28 p.m., Doppler radar indicated a line of severe thunderstorms capable of producing winds higher than 60 mph approaching the area.
People are advised to watch for heavy winds and very heavy rain.
"For your protection, move to an interior room on the lowest floor of your home or business," the advisory states. "There is little to no lightning with these storms. Heavy rains flood roads quickly so do not drivce into areas where water covers the road."
A flood advisory for western Hunterdon County is in effect until 4:45 p.m. The National Weather Service issued the advisory due to the combination of rain and snowmelt.
"At 12:50 p.m., Doppler radar and surface observations indicated that rainfall is approaching 1 inch across portions of the advised area," the service reported. "At the same time, last night's snow and ice is melting and adding to the runoff. The combination of the rain and melting snow will cause minor flooding."
