JP Case, Readington Middle School students attend Model U.N.

Each student was assigned a country and researched their country's views on the topics. Students also learned parliamentary procedure in anticipation of their participation in the program.

Forty-one middle school students, 23 from JP Case and 18 from Readington Middle School, participated in the Northeast Regional Model UN 2 conference, Jan. 15, 16, 17.

They joined 130 other students from New Jersey, Pennsylvania and New York in creating and debating resolutions on nuclear power, racial and religious discrimination and internet accessibility, trying criminals in the International Criminal Court and creating a peace plan for the Balkans.

Each student was assigned a country and researched their country's views on the topics. Students also learned parliamentary procedure in anticipation of their participation in the program.

Several local students were recognized for their participation. Three of the nine research paper awards were won by Hunterdon students, Grace Hayser, Ruhyak Gupta and Allison Vandal. Sarah Kang was one of four students recognized as the outstanding first-year participants.

Two of the five Outstanding Country awards were won by Ethan Kroon and Sydney Kang for North Korea, and Amanda Fischer and Daniel Eckloff for representing Mexico. The Superior Country award was won by Hunterdon students, Allison Vandal and Sarah Kang for representing Sweden.
