What loophole? The one on free trade between law-abiding citizens? I thought that was protected by the Constitution.

To the editor:

Once again the president proved that his pen is mightier than our Constitution.  Without offering a scintilla of data or evidence to support his emotional soliloquy, President Obama issued an Executive Order to close the "gun show loophole."

What loophole? The one on free trade between law-abiding citizens? I thought that was protected by the Constitution.

What crime will it stop or prevent? Every responsible expert who analyzed the massacres at Aurora, Sandy Hook, and even San Bernardino, asserted that no existing law or proposed law would have prevented those horrific crimes.

Factually, Obama asserted his power not because of social necessity, but because it fit his personal agenda. His action was ego-driven, unnecessary and only expands the intrusion of the Federal government into our private lives.

For those who believe that it is the responsibility of only the government to protect us, consider this question - if you have a life-threatening event at home and dial  911, how long will it take the police to respond? The answer, according to the police with whom I posed this question, is 20 minutes on the average. That's a long time if someone is breaking down your door or beating you to death. The police will arrive just in time to trace an outline around your body and state, "We have no suspects."

There are over  48,000 local, state and Federal gun control laws in the United States most of which focus on an inanimate object. To continue focusing on that object by passing another gun control law in lieu of taking actions centered on the objective of saving lives will  continue to achieve failure.
