Calvin, 18, who put together the program, has been playing cello for more than half of his life and is currently a student at the Juilliard Pre-College in New York City.
He also teaches cello to motivated students in and around Hunterdon County. Justine, 23, has been playing piano since the age of 6 and is pursuing a degree in mathematics at Rutgers University. Andrew, 20, has been playing piano and violin since the age of 5. He is currently pursuing a double major in mathematics and piano performance at the University of Texas in Austin. The Long Hill String Band will perform American Heritage music at the North County Branch Library, Clinton, on Saturday, Jan. 23 at 2 p.m. American music in the 1800s is based on the songs brought over from Europe by immigrants settling America, reflecting their hardships, joys, and experiences. Using fiddle, banjo, mountain dulcimer, mandolin, upright bass, guitar and voice, the program includes reels, jigs, dance tunes, waltzes, and rags, some sing-along. In addition to the history behind the music and instruments and the varied styles of playing, they will also demonstrate a form of dancing called flatfooting, play the spoons and make Woody the Limberjack dance. Jeannie Geremia will speak about the "Million Pollinator Garden Challenge" at the North County Branch Library's Garden Club on Tuesday, Jan. 26 at 7 p.m., in Clinton. Pollinators like butterflies, bees and bats help produce one third of the food we eat so they are vitally important. Cirillo is a 25-year member and Qualified Observer with the NJ Astronomical Association in Voorhees State Park in High Bridge, the largest public observatory in New Jersey. Cirillo was also the founder of Somerset County's 4-H Space & Astronomy Club and its leader for 15 years.
